Amazing recipes for your navratri fasts

Navratri is a very auspicious festival which is done 2 times a year.

In north India people fast for 9 days and devote these fasts to the almighty.

The most common issue which comes up is, what to eat?

People try to feel that they are helpless when it comes to options!

In this article, i am coming up with amazing recipes!

Please try them during your navratri fasts and enjoy this amazing period!

I am giving you a list of food products which are permitted during fasts, so keep your kitchen ready with these ingredients which will make it easy for you to make these recipes!

  • Sabudana (Also called as tapioca)
  • Kutta ka atta (Buckwheat flour)
  • Singhare ka atta ( Indian water chest nut flour)
  • Samvat (Banyard millet)
  • Potatoes
  • Sweet potato
  • Paneer
  • Milk
  • Curd
  • Colocasia (Arbi)
  • Fruits
  • Pumpkin

Lets add up some navratri fasts recipes!

(1) Sabudana Khichdi

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup of sabudana or tapioca pearls
  • 2 potatoes
  • Roasted peanuts
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tsp of jeera
  • Rock salt or sendha namak
  • Lemon juice
  • Oil as you require

Method :

  • Soak sabudana for atleast 4-5 hours.
  • Drain the sabudana and keep it for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Boil the potatoes and mash it once it cools down.
  • Dry roast the peanuts or you can also use roasted peanuts.
  • Take a pan add oil and jeera till it splits up.
  • Add green chilies and then add sabudana mixture to the pan.
  • Let it heat for a while and serve.
  • You can serve it with curd raita as well.

(2) Samvat Rice Khichdi

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup sama
  • 1/2 cup of potatoes
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of rock salt
  • 1 tsp of ginger paste
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 tsp of ghee
  • Sendha namak as required

Method :

  • Soak sama in water for over an hour and drain it completely.
  • Take a pan, heat ghee, cumin seeds that is jeera.
  • Keep frying jeera till the color changes.
  • Then add potatoes till it becomes a little soft.
  • Add 3 cups of water to the sama and boil it properly.
  • Boil it completely.
  • Then add it to the pan and let it heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve it hot with coconut or green chutney.

(3) Kuttu Ki Khichdi

Ingredients :

  • 2 tbsps of raw peanuts or to save your time you can use roasted peanuts as well
  • 1 tsp of ghee
  • 1/2 tsp of jeera seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of ginger
  • 1 cup of kuttu (Buckwheat flour)
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • rock salt as required
  • Sendha namak as required
  • Lemon juice as required

Method :

  • Roast peanuts in tava or you can use non cast iron.
  • Remove it and make a coarse powder in a mortar pestle or in a coffee grinder whatever you prefer.
  • Mix it with kuttu ka atta or buckwheat flour.
  • Take a pan or non cast iron, add jeera or cumin seeds.
  • Saute’ it for a while.
  • Add the water, sugar, salt.
  • Add buckwheat to it and let it stay on simmer.
  • Cook till all the water gets.

(4) Sabudane Ka Thalipeeth

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup of sabudana or tapioca pearls
  • 2 potatoes
  • Roasted peanuts
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tsp of jeera
  • Rock salt or sendha namak
  • Lemon juice
  • Oil as you require

Method :

  • Soak sabudana for atleast 4-5 hours.
  • Drain the sabudana and keep it for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Boil the potatoes and mash it once it cools down.
  • Dry roast the peanuts or you can also use roasted peanuts.
  • Take a pan add oil and jeera till it splits up.
  • Add little water and make the sabudana mushy.
  • Once it becomes the batter, take a part of it and add it to the pan.
  • Let it heat from a side and then flip the side.
  • Heat till it becomes crisp.

(5) Singhare Ki Poori

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup singhare ka atta (Indian waterchest nut flour)
  • 1 cup of potatoes (Boiled and mashed)
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1 tsp of jeera seeds
  • 2 tsp of cooking oil prefer rice bran
  • Sendha namak as required
  • Water to bind the dough
  • Oil as required to fry the poories

Method :

  • Pressure cook the potatoes and keep it boiled, mashed.
  • Take singhare ka atta or indian waterchest nut flour with very little water to kneed the dough.
  • Put very little water, we do not have to make the dough sticky otherwise rolling the pooris will become difficult so make sure you are not over pouring the water.
  • Out of the dough make small dough balls which you can use to roll into pooris.
  • Take a frying pan and heat the oil, add these pooris one by one and let it turn brown.
  • Make sure you are making thick pooris so that you can fry it properly.
  • You can serve singhare k poori with vrat k aloo with some curd raita as well!
  • This becomes a complete meal!

(6) Kuttu Ki Poori

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Kuttu ka atta ( Buckwheat flour)
  • 1 cup of potatoes (Boiled and mashed)
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1 tsp of jeera seeds
  • 2 tsp of cooking oil prefer rice bran
  • Sendha namak as required
  • Water to bind the dough
  • Oil as required to fry the poories

Method :

Its exactly the same as singhare ki poori just the flour is different!
