Interrelationship between Senescent cells and Longevity of Human life

In a recent study, it found that when the senescent cells are removed from our body then the chances of longevity can be increased. It’s quite interesting and it is a boom in the healthcare field, since those who have less chance of life period (i.e., those who are counting their last dates of life) that time the lifespan can be increased, so it’s god’s gift we can say in the medical invention.

A research was carried out on a novel pharmacological candidate which shows that age related osteoarthritis was alleviated when destruction of selective SnCs (senescent cells) are done, this was published in medical journal named Nature Medicine (Impact Factor:30.357).

Senescent cells

The case study says that when the selection of senescent cells is removed from our joints then there could be decreased in the post-traumatic osteoarthritis, which allows the growth of new cartilage and also in the joint heal. Senescent cells are the older cells. They get accumulated when we get age in the tissues these cells have vital role in repairing injury and healing wounds. The only drawback it has is they can promote the incidence of cancer in the tissues like joints, cartilage and knees. These senescent cells mostly are not removed from tissues after injury which would contribute in osteoarthritis formation.

Method Used in Cartilage Repair

  • Matrix Associated Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) is an effective way for the cartilage and knee repair. Knee has two types of cartilage, meniscus and articular cartilage. Matrix associated autologous chondrocyte implantation are done only for articular cartilage damage which arise in arthritis patients.
  • In arthritis, the symptoms are knee pain, swelling of knees and motility is lost. Our cartilage doesn’t have own supply of blood, because of it healing becomes tougher by itself before proceeding to cartilage healing it is must to find which leads to this damage in cartilage.

What are Further Studies Done

  • Peter de Keizer from nether land invented a peptide which impairs the binding between proteins FOXO4 and p53. This peptide reversed the decline in kidney function and eliminated weight loss and caused liver damage.
  • Cancer is a uncontrolled growth of tumor cells in the wronger area, To prevent the abnormal cell growth a cell can undergo senesce or the arrest phase. p53, pRB tumour supressors were important for senescence of cell. Cellular senescence helps in preventing the proliferation of tumour cells.
  • The components of RAF-MEK-ERK pathway induce the premature senescence (Zhu et al., 1998; Lin et al., 1998).
  • Seladin-1 is a genetic suppressor which induces premature senescence (Wu et al., 2004).
  • During chemotherapy of lung cancer, the induction of senescence occurs (Roberson et al., 2005).

Thus, these senescent cells when removed from body it reverses the aging factors, reduce the disease condition, prevents cancer growth and thereby helps in increasing the longevity of human being.
